Fermion sign problem in path integral Monte Carlo simulations: grand-canonical ensemble

چکیده
Abstract We present a practical analysis of the fermion sign problem in fermionic path integral Monte Carlo (PIMC) simulations grand-canonical ensemble (GCE). As representative model system, we consider electrons 2D harmonic trap. find that GCE is even more severe than canonical at same conditions, which, general, makes latter preferred option. Despite these difficulties, show PIMC are still feasible many cases, which potentially gives access to important quantities like compressibility or Matsubara Greens function. This has implications for contemporary fields research such as warm dense matter, ultracold atoms, and quantum dots.

Path-integral Monte Carlo simulations without the sign problem: multilevel blocking approach for effective actions
The multilevel blocking algorithm recently proposed as a possible solution to the sign problem in path-integral Monte Carlo simulations has been extended to systems with long-ranged interactions along the Trotter direction. As an application, results for the real-time quantum dynamics of the spin-boson model are presented.
متن کاملGrand canonical Monte Carlo simulations of water in protein environments.
The grand canonical simulation algorithm is considered as a general methodology to sample the configuration of water molecules confined within protein environments. First, the probability distribution of the number of water molecules and their configuration in a region of interest for biochemical simulations, such as the active site of a protein, is derived by considering a finite subvolume in ...
متن کاملAutomatic Control of Solvent Density in Grand Canonical Ensemble Monte Carlo Simulations.
We present automated methods for determining the value of Adams' B parameter corresponding to a target solvent density in grand canonical ensemble Monte Carlo simulations. The method found to work best employs a proportional-integral control equation commonly used in industrial process control applications. We show here that simulations employing this method rapidly converge to the desired targ...
متن کاملPivot-coupled grand canonical Monte Carlo method for ring simulations
A new method is presented for the simulation of an ensemble of polymer rings of variable size at fixed monomer chemical potential. Called pivot-coupled grand canonical Monte Carlo ~PC-GCMC!, it is based on the directed addition or removal of a monomer to or from a ring, coupled to the pivot of a section of the ring to maintain the ring’s continuity. Application of PC-GCMC to single, isolated ri...
متن کاملPath Integral Monte Carlo Simulations for Fermion Systems : Pairing in the Electron - Hole Plasma
We review the path integral method wherein quantum systems are mapped with Feynman's path integrals onto a classical system of " ring-polymers " and then simulated with the Monte Carlo technique. Bose or Fermi statistics correspond to possible " cross-linking " of polymers. As proposed by Feynman, superfluidity and Bose condensation result from macroscopic exchange of bosons. To map fermions on...
